Sri Hari Kota, India (AHN) – In an attempt to get global commercial space market’s share, India on Wednesday launched three satellites in a single rocket into orbit.
The rocket was carrying a remote-sensing Resourcesat-2 to study human life’s effect on the planet’s natural resources, an Indo-Russian satellite for atmospheric and stellar studies and imaging orbiter. The rocket launch was made from Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota space center.
Indian Space Research Organization Chairman K Radhakrishnan welcomed the launch and described the Resourcesat-2 mission as successful.
With the launch’s success, India’s space program saved itself from suffering another major setback after last December when a satellite launch vehicle blew up and dropped in the Bay of Bengal after getting deviated from its original path.
India is eyeing its first manned flight into space in 2016. To claim the share of lucrative commercial satellite-launch market, New Delhi sent an Italian orbiter four years ago.
