New York, NY, United States (CNS) – Movie bosses Bob and Harvey Weinstein have been sued for $50 million over claims that they “sabotaged” a film that could have made profitable if it were not for the two “out-of-control” movie executives. Tony Leech and Brian Inerfeld of Protocol Pictures allege that they were also removed from the animated film “Escape From Planet Earth” by the brothers.
The $50 million lawsuit, filed in New York State Supreme Court and obtained by Deadline.com, states that after making the film suffer due to the Weinsteins’ “hubris, incompetence, profligate spending, and contempt for contractual obligations.”
The plaintiff also said that they fired about they refused to the Weinsteins’ demands that they reduce their entitlement to share in the profits of the film project.
To prove their point, Leech and Inerfeld cited an incident when the Weinsteins paid them $500,000 to delay the filing of their suit and to agree to their request for a private mediation instead that would take place after the Oscar Awards.
The allegations have nothing to do with the Oscars, but the brothers, “knowing that they had been guilty of the incompetence and fraug” that are being accused of, did not want to take the risk that their reputations would be sullied by the time the Academy voted for their film.
The Weinsteins’ lawyer calls the lawsuit “frivolous,” adding that it “contains like more than false, gratuitous, slanderous, preposterous and totally irrelevant personal attacks” on The Weinstein Company.
Apparently Leech and Inerfeld were let go after they refused to make the film that the Weinsteins wanted, but they were paid in excess of $2 million, which was agreed upon in their contract.
Bob and Harvey Weinstein are also locked in a legal battle started by docu-filmmaker Michael Moore over the “Fahrenheit 9/11″ profits the siblings allegedly hid from him.
